Annual Holiday Dinner

November 11, 2008

Please set aside Wednesday, December 10th for the PAPA Holiday Dinner. Once again, we will gather at the Radisson Northbrook, 2875 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Northbrook at 6 pm for an evening spent with PAPA friends and family.

If you attended the party the last two years you know that the food was incredible, the service excellent and fun was had by all – and NO boring speeches!  We promise more of the same this year.

Please remember to bring a wrapped toy or children’s book, with gender/age noted on the back, for children confined to the hospital over the holidays. In lieu of an airport gift distribution, we will be collecting gifts for the Shriners Hospital in Chicago.

We look forward to seeing you there!

October 28th Safety Meeting was an Astounding Success!

November 4, 2008

October 28th Safety meeting co hosted by PAPA was an astounding success. Attended by well over 100 pilots and their friends to listen to retired PanAM Captain Paul Johnson talk about flying commercial sea planes from San Francisco to Hawaii.  The audience members were spell bound while listening to the prevailing navigational practices and the rigorous standards the pilots had to meet to fly those planes.  They had to be rated radio operators and A/P mechanics in addition to being a pilot.  A short segment movie displayed the opulence of flying during those days.

It was interesting to listen to the evolution of Capt. Johnson’s illustrious career and was a great presentation and evening.  Capt. Johnson was serenaded to “Happy Birthday” and a cake.  I can not affirm that all of us were in tune.    The cake and coffee were superb.  I would like to thank Bill Knauz not only for his generosity in hosting this meeting and his enthusiasm excels all else.
